O-203 An International Review of the Sympathetic Reaction Test

December 2018
Dr. Ernest L. Baker

This document describes the results of an international review of the STANAG 4396 related to the sympathetic reaction test. The purpose of this test is to provide a standard test procedure to assess the potential for a munition to sympathetically react to the initiation of an adjacent munition. To perform the review, MSIAC created a questionnaire in conjunction with the custodian of this STANAG, France. The on-line questionnaire was subsequently published on the MSIAC web site. Notices were sent to the MSIAC national focal point officers, participants of the AC/326 SG/B Sympathetic Reaction Custodial Working Group (SR CWG), and other subject matter experts including test centers in most of the AC/326 nations. This document provides an analysis of the answers received and provides some recommendations to potentially support an amendment of STANAG 4396.
