This paper discusses two issues that are currently of interest to the IM community: ageing and cook-off.

The effects of ageing of energetic materials and the consequences for Insensitive Munitions (IM) have been brought to the attention of the NIMIC on a number of occasions over the last few years. NIMIC is collating and reviewing relevant data in this area to help determine the consequences for IM. A summary of some of the conclusions is given in this paper.

A review of current capabilities in cook-off is being conducted by the NIMIC. The review covers cook-off reaction mechanisms and details the experimental and modelling capabilities being used to study them. This includes the results of the discussions held in August 2002.
