Munitions Safety Goal

Munitions Safety is a noble but never ending quest that pays huge benefits to those that understand, expound, utilize, and help accomplish its goal of “Eliminating Hazardous Consequences due to Unintended Reactions of Munitions and Energetic Material throughout their Lifecycle”.

MSIAC Member Nations identified a need to design, develop, procure, and use safer munitions (with IM emphasis) and recognized the benefits of establishing a focal point within NATO to assist Nation’s and NATO munitions development, acquisition, and logistics to address the problems associated with achieving Munitions Safety.

MSIAC Supports Munitions Safety across the Total Lifecycle from Concept to Disposal MSIAC provides its Member Nations lifecycle Munitions Safety (MS) expertise, information, and analysis with an emphasis on Insensitive Munitions (IM).  MSIAC is a NATO Project Office that is directly funded and managed by its Member Nations and is located at NATO Headquarters, Brussels Belgium.

MSIAC collects and distributes information, provides analysis, and recommendations via answered Technical Questions, Open and Limited Reports, development of Software Tools, Databases, Training, and Workshops in four major areas that relate to Munitions lifecycle safety: Threats to munitions; Explosives (energetic materials); Systems related Technical issues; and Munitions logistics, movement, and storage related safety issues.

MSIAC also helps NATO, CASG (AC/326 and its Sub-Groups), identify and resolve potential munitions safety issues and supports standardization and resolution opportunities.
