O-057 Assessing the Risk and Cost Benefits Associated with the Introduction of IM

August 2000
Rodrigue Boulay (Mitigation Methods)

NIMIC will hold a two-part workshop entitled "Addressing the Risk and Cost Benefits Associated with the Introduction of Insensitive Munitions (IM)". This paper describes the aims and objectives of Part 1 of this workshop. Insensitive Munitions are designed to minimise the probability of initiation and reduce collateral damage in the event the munition responds to an unplanned stimulus. Any improvement to either of these aspects should result in a reduction of the risk associated with the deployment of IM. These issues and the potential benefits from the introduction of IM will be the focus of the discussion for Part 1 of the workshop. A brief outline of the workshop (Part 1) is presented.
