MSIAC Survey – Certification of Munitions Packaging

MSIAC provides support in the field of test and evaluation for the safety of munitions. Packaging is a critical element of munition systems as they are often kept in the packaging for a large portion of their lifecycle environmental profile (LCEP). Therefore, packaging must be considered when assessing the environmental exposure of the munition systems throughout the LCEP. MSIAC has recently received a technical question asking about certification of munitions packaging.

Within this survey, certification of munitions packaging refers to the tests and/or assessments that are performed on packaging for munitions as a standalone item (i.e. without the presence of the munition system).

This short survey will help determine the legislative requirements of member nations to perform certification and testing of munitions packaging and whether this differs from the legislative requirements for packaging of other dangerous goods. This survey will also help determine the test standards used by member nations as well as other specific requirements related to the certification and testing of munitions packaging.
