Digital Test and Evaluation for Munitions Survey
MSIAC provides support in the field of test and evaluation for the safety of munitions to enable the assessment of safety and suitability for service (S3) and qualification. We have recently received a technical question asking about digital test and evaluation (DT&E) for munitions in support of qualification.
Within this survey, DT&E for munitions refers to qualification tests and/or assessments that are performed by digital means such as, but not limited to, modelling, simulation and analytical calculations, without the requirement to perform physical tests. The aim of DT&E for munitions may be to reduce the number of physical tests or ultimately completely replace and supress the need to execute specific physical tests. Models for DT&E for munitions are validated by physical tests prior to their full implementation within a qualification program. This short survey will help determine if member nations have implemented DT&E for munitions in support of qualification or have current ongoing research activities on this topic. This survey will also help determine the level of interest and challenges associated with the potential future implementation of DT&E for munitions.
